Paul Bennett and I met up by the brickhouse this morning but instead of heading forYnys Tachwedd fields straight away we decided to have a look at the sea first. Very little out there, until Paul picked up a Great Northern Diver in breeding plumage, possibly the bird found by Luke last Friday. The bird was fairly distant then got up and flew around in circles before landing a little closer. It gradually drifted towards another bird until they were close together, enabling i.d. of the second bird as a Black-throated Diver, also in breeding plumage. Seven Common Scoter flew north.
We then went to look at the fields, meeting Martin Creasser who was just arriving, Just one Whimbrel and at least five Wheatears, including at least two Greenland birds.on Ynys Tachwedd so we went over to have a look at the Leri from the railway.bridge, seeing nothing except Andre Morgan, who happened along.
So it was back to the brickhouse to join Martin. In our absence he had picked out five (I think) Red-throated Divers. I could only find two of them in the distance and there was no sign of the two larger species. The other highlight was a male Eider flying north and then a small party of waders dropped in onto the shingle nearby; ten Ringed Plovers and a Dunlin.
