DEATH IN THE AFTERNOON IN ABERYSTWYTH

   A Sparrowhawk sped across the river towards the wooden jetty near the mouth of the harbour. The feral pigeons living there all flew off in fright; except for one. It had remained on one of the rocks below the boardwalk and the hawk grabbed it.                          The pigeon struggled and the two birds tumbled across the sea-weed to the edge of the water where the hawk proceeded to drown its prey. It then dragged it up the slope and after much plucking spent the next 20 minutes filling its crop. After cleaning its bill on the sea-weed it flew back across the water and headed for Pen Dinas.                              Digi-scoped shots from our balcony:
