More from yesterday
At RSPB Ynys-hir there were good numbers of ducks out on the estuary with 280 pintail, 1900 wigeon, over 1000 teal and 23 shoveler. Seven red-breasted merganser, three goldeneye and five goosander were the diving duck highlights. A distant great northern diver along with three great crested grebes was also nice. From the M M hide nice to see water rail, a very obliging Cetti's warbler that was very showy and a kingfisher.
Raptors the highlight though with both marsh harriers and a
ringtail hen harrier, a male Merlin, a peregrine being chased at high speed by a
G B B gull and a kestrel.
Following a post on the phone I headed off to Lovesgrove and
was delighted to see the cattle egret still there on a flooded bit of field just
east of the lay-by.
