Out and about again.
At the brick house near Ynyslas there were eight red-throated
divers very distant and a very close black-throated diver fishing in the surf
just off-shore (interestingly it had a small neck collar and no white thigh
patch but in the surf I could not pin anything else to confirm any suspicions I
had). You win some and lose some
Later at the Marian Mawr hide at RSPB Ynys-hir it was interesting
to see many small flocks of gulls bathing in the river before circling high and
heading inland. Amongst them were nine Mediterranean gulls in cracking summer
plumage, most obviously paired up already and presumably on their way to a
breeding site elsewhere. All flew up river. Cracking birds are adult Med's
though so far Heermann's gull is my favourite in breeding plumage. No chance of
that in Wales though!
