Yesterday I saw my first pied flycatcher of the year in the woods near Salem, and heard a willow warbler there. Not far away I believe there's a pair of goshawks although they are elusive. At Penbontrhydybeddau one of a pair of red kites has blue wing tags but it appears to be the female and she's sitting tight, so it will be a few weeks before I can read the tags. She would be a 2010 bird.
I'm doing my kite monitoring again this year so if anyone discovers kites
nesting (or preparing to nest) in the area bounded by the Ceulan Valley
(Tal-y-bont), the A487 and A4159 to Lovesgrove, the A44 to Ponterwyd and the
mountain road back to Tal-y-bont, I'd be very pleased to hear from them. Many
thanks.
