Just back from a late morning walk at Llanrhystud where I was astonished to stumble upon a Shore Lark, a lifer for me, and my number 1 UK bogey bird, having searched for them in winter in Norfolk more than once many years ago. Conditions at the coast were bad; pretty windy, cold, raining, and sea spray blowing up from the high tide. There were a number of Ringed Plovers in the flooded field and when I got to the little ploughed field there were 5 more. What I thought was a Skylark flew up but it seemed to have a bold facial pattern and I thought I had mistaken it for another Ringed Plover. When I got my bins onto it I couldn't believe what I was looking at. I spent about 5 minutes watching the bird and at one point managed to creep up within about ten metres of it. I tried to take a photo on my phone but conditions were deteriorating fast and I decided to retreat back to the car rather than pursue the bird around the field.
Other sightings; 32 Ringed Plover, 3 Dunlin, 2 Whimbrel, 3 Gannets, 3 Wheatears, Shelduck.
