Crossbill singing in a wood nr Bettws Bledwrs today and later 5 flew over calling. Otherwise rather quiet in spite of sunshine tho' I was relieved to hear 2 goldcrests sounding off but only 1 wren. An area of clear fell has revealed a magnificent beech pollarded many years ago;I thought it was full of singing birds but it was the wind in the twiggery.
First wheatear for me nr Pontrhydfendigaid heading into the hills.
