From the Observatory.

After all the excitement and renewed expectations with the return of the ospreys. today can best be described as; OSPREYS;WHAT OSPREYS:?
My watch started at 07.15hrs. and ended at 17.16hrs. No ospreys encountered on every point of the compass within a mile of the house. The day was redeemed however by encountering 3 pairs of stonechats, 5 pairs of reed buntings, 7 pairs of shelduck, 1 kite, 1 male hen harrier, 3 pairs of redshank and 4 pairs of oystercatcher when I occasioned to the rock ridge above Ynys crossing and my return to Ty Bont. The real redemption of the day and inexpressible relief was the unexpected discovery of 4 pairs of magnificent goosanders, roosting and preening on the Llyfnant gravels opposite the house. These later resumed their pairs as the tide developed into full ebb. Two pairs then to continue feeding on their way down to Glandyfi.
21.12hrs. Two snipe chipping and one drummer directly over the house.
I await the spring with customary excitement!
