Autumn Snipe

On a walk around the edge of a marsh on some farmland near Llanrhysted this afternoon I flushed four Common Snipe. These are the first, of what is normally a large influx at this time of year, into this marsh. The changing weather and the northerly winds will undoubtedly lead to greater numbers appearing along with their smaller brethren - the Jack Snipe. A lot of Mid Ceredigion farmland has areas of wet, boggy ground which I am sure provide ideal habitat for much greater numbers of these species than we generally account for.
