NORWEGIAN RINGED PLOVER

On Saturday 25th Sept. one of the 44 Ringed Plovers, mostly juvs, at the high tide roost at Ynyslas had a red ring on its left leg and a yellow flag on its right leg, marked AVU.
This morning I received an e-mail from Norway with the following information: The bird, hatched earlier this year, had been ringed on 3rd September at the Giske Ornithological Station, More and Romsdal, Norway. It was recaptured at that site on 6th and 19 days later it was at Ynyslas having travelled 1253 km !!
It was one of 190 Ringed Plovers ringed/flagged at Giske.
Previous recoveries in the breeding season have been from N Norway, N Sweden and N Finland and so presumably the Ynyslas bird was from one of those countries. Recoveries in the winter have been from Senegal, Sierra Leone and Ghana. That little bird still had some way to go on its long-distance migration!
Ynyslas must be one of the vital rest and refuelling stops on the way.
