Birds seen at the Clettwr
This afternoon Buster and I went for a walk along the Clettwr. Scanning across the river from the footpath I could see Lapwings on the ground almost everywhere I looked, but I didn't realise just how many there were until they all got up into the air. When they did my estimate was that there were close to 1,000 plus about 100 Dunlin and quite a few Starlings wheeling around over the flooded meadow. The ducks - mostly Teal but with a few Wigeon, Mallard and at least one Shoveler - stayed put, as did the Curlew and Redshanks. Later I saw what had probably caused the commotion, a female Hen Harrier glided across the scene on the look-out for her diner.
