I'm probably not the only one who goes birdwatching from dawn to dusk on New Year's Day to get the year off to a good start. The real highlight was somewhat surprising: the sight of 53 Blue Tits busily feeding on the grass between the Old College and St Michael's Church in Aberystwyth.
I finally caught up with the 15 Pink-footed Geese at Llanrhystud, viewed from the beach car park and saw around 230 Barnacle Geese on the Morfa Cyd part of Ynys-hir. Finally, and thanks to Russell Jones, just before dusk we had a sighting of a Slavonian Grebe off Ynyslas Turn.
