I too was in the vicinity of Aberaeron today(Tuesaday) I was driving towards the town fom Aberystwyth and on the hill spotted a very large bird indeed My first reaction was Golden Eagle but then I noticed its forked tail so came to the conclusion that it was a very large kite and in soaring mode with its wings outstretched.
