Crossbills at Cwm Berwyn Forest, Tregaron

Yesterday afternoon, 16 crossbills feeding alongside the most easterly forestry track of the Cwm Berwyn plantation, Tregaron (immediately before the cattle grid onto the open mountain). By the continuous calling, there were many more further back into the woodland and out of view. Interestingly, they were all feeding and moving as male & female couples rather than as a flock. Does anyone know if this is usual at this time of the year?

Also;

30+ Siskins feeding with the crossbills, often in the same tree and on adjacent cones.

Male Greater Spotted Woodpecker – feeding, not calling
