Colour ringed wood warbler

The BTO will probably provide details of the colour ringed wood warbler but I did a google search and found something on 'surfbirds' about a study taking place up in Scotland where 3 wood warblers were colour ringed by a Harry Scott at Dinnet Oak wood on the banks of the river dee near Aberdeen in 2005! This sounds remarkably like your bird Ian. Check it out.
