Out and about on the Rheidol; Dippers, Grey Wagtail and Mallard’s in the higher reaches; the Kingfisher still showing at Glanarafon could be from the same family Jon spotted at Lovesgrove as its in close proximity. Incidentally I think you have a job for life there Jon! I’m convinced the balsam is miniature spitting ‘Triffids’ in disguise sent to take over our planet!! Back home in the garden around 40 Swallows on the wires and as many Hs Martins circling above; with so many alert eyes I was amazed how the local Merlin still managed to sneak a way through flying in like a grubhunter and suddenly appearing in the centre of all the activity; a terrific chase ensued ending in failure; confused by too much choice perhaps? A large group of Swifts around 50 passed over on passage but my three local prospectors (non breeders) are still here and visit at least two or three times a day to check out the gable and eaves boxes; I am hoping for great things next year!! Two half developed Hs Martin eggs on the floor under the boxes this afternoon someone’s taken umbrage!
p.s. since returning from hols on Tuesday not a note from the Blackbirds I really miss them!
