Ynyslas and Aberleri fields - pm

By this afternoon the number of Brent geese at the mouth of the Leri was up to 19 - they were completely unperturbed by the celtic longboats rowing past them just off-shore. Like John and Bob, I too was puzzled by the mixture of belly shades. Thanks for the explanation John.

Also a female/juv Merlin, flushing a group of Lapwings on the saltmarsh before heading over to the fields by the caravan park, where it sat around on various fence posts eyeing up the Starlings feeding in the stubble.

Up the road at Aberleri fields, a Short-eared Owl and a ring-tail Hen Harrier put on an fine display hunting over the rough grassland near the old hide (4.15pm ff.) The two birds seemed to be working the field together, always hunting in close proximity of each other, with no sign of interspecific aggression. I've never seen this behaviour before - has anyone else? An excellent end to the day!
