This morning I found this gull on the beach just north of the turn carpark. It was wet, I was wet and there were young children looking at me so I took a quick pic, checked for rings and went on up the beach to see 20+ dunlin on the stones.
I assumed from the W pattern that it was a young kittiwake, ( it had been decapitated)but I later realised that it had very pale flesh coloured legs which wouldn't be right for kittiwake. I have beaten myself up for not doing a proper id job on it even at the expense of the feelings of young on-lookers! It does have a short body compared to wing span.
