Leri at High-tide (WeBS count)

After a long trudge to the Leri pill-box in poor visibility and rain expectations of seeing anything were not high. However, after 5 minutes the rain and cloud cleared and I was able to carry out the WeBS count for that section of the Dyfi. Highlights were 11 grey plover, 9 pale-bellied brent geese, a greenshank and a female merlin. Wigeon numbers were very low though 92 pintail, over 400 oystercatchers and 210 shelduck were nice. On the way back to the Leri the female eider put in an appearance too. Yesterday at RSPB Ynys-hir 4 Greenland white-fronted geese and a goshawk were good too. My year list for the county has got off to a reasonable start with 100 species exactly seen to date.
