Ynys-hir in the rain
Appalling weather for the first day of the year, so, rather than get wet at Ynyslas I popped into Ynys-hir and bird watched from the shelter of the reserve's land-rover. The first year little gull was still here, feeding with some black-headed gulls over the river and the barnacle goose flock was feeding scattered on the salt marsh. Despite the very mild weather teal numbers were very high with over 1600 scattered on the wetter areas of the lowland wet grassland. A solitary bar-tailed godwit was the highlight from the Breakwater hide and a black-tailed godwit was at Morfa Cud. Some 1300 golden plover, 2200 lapwing and over 100 redshank were other highlights there.
