Ynyshir

Inspired by recent tales of peregrines and little gulls, I went out to the Breakwater Hide this morning. On the way, five cock pheasants flew out of the arable area, frightening the life out of me. I did see a peregrine (though not as obliging as for Bob and John) but the gull flying like a marsh tern was too far away to call.

I must have fallen asleep as I dreamt that the RSPB were going to run shuttles down to the hide and provide a telescope for high tides. Coming back to reality, the path back is like quicksand in places. It struck me that now that the path along the railway is closed so as not to disturb the birds on the fields, there will be up to twice as much traffic on the route, and large amounts of stones and/or boardwalk will be needed to keep access reasonable for paying visitors.

A sparrowhawk flew in front of the visitor centre.
