Too many seabirds

At Ynyslas turn this morning from 6am I was staggered by the number of birds in the bay. Some 30,000 manx shearwaters, 480 gannets and hundreds of gulls were involved in a wheeling, feeding mass. Thousands of manxies with hundreds of gannets were often feeding just feet away from the beach with some manxies flying over the sand. 180 sandwich terns, a few fulmar and 28 common scoter added variety to the sea birds. A count of the gulls revealed 48 great black-backed, 73 lesser black-backed and 480 herring gull. Other odds and ends included, rather bizarrely, a greenshank looking rather strange wading amongst manxies, 27 sanderling and a peregrine hunting along the beach.
