John, Bob and I spent a pleasant session at Ynyslas turn this morning watching streams of Manx Shearwaters, plus Gannets, until we were dizzy trying to pick out a rarer species.
The birds were flitting by practically on the tideline: we even walked down the beach to get even closer views.
Apart from the above, we also clocked up at least 10 Kittiwakes, 12 Common Scoter, a few Sandwich and one commic tern.
Waders on the beach or flying past: 10 Ringed Plover 3 Dunlin and 8 Sanderling.
None of us were brave enough to try to estimate the numbers of manxies. On the way I had stopped at the south end of Borth near the reefs, and there were a good few thousands there, plus around 300 Gannets resting on the water.
Bob and I then went to the Clettwr which was birdless except for a Dipper under the metal footbridge.
Later in the afternoon, tempted by the prospect of Liz's Hobbies, I was off to Cors Caron.
After a short wait the first Hobby appeared. I was quite happy with that, but decided to stay a little while to see if any more appeared. They did, and for a short period around 4:00pm there were five birds feeding together.
