MEDITERRANEAN GULLS

At Llanrhystud this morning, before the rain arrived, there were 115 Mediterranean Gulls on the recently harvested field by the lane leading to the beach. At least 30 were juvs. When Harry arrived the flock moved onto the sea near the caravans.
On the meadow by the shingle bank was a White Wagtail amongst several Pied.

Chris Bird had a couple of colour-ringed Med. Gulls on College Rocks at Aberystwyth recently and here are the details:
1) a juv with green ring marked AKTS seen on 16th August. It was ringed before fledging near Niedersachen, Germany (53.35N, 9.36E) on 16th June.
2) an adult, white 39V7 seen on 18th and 22nd August. It was also ringed as a pullus but near Ost-Vlaanderen, Belgium (51.17N 4.13E) on 16th June 2008. It was subsequently sighted on 5th January 2010 near Estremadura, Portugal; 15th-27th April 2010 near Pas de Calais, France (50.22N 1.4E); 7th August 2010 at Llanon by Liz Snell and 19th March 2011 near Indre et Loire, France (47.25N 0.48E).
