At 3pm this afternoon (Saturday 1st) there were c100 starlings foraging on the lower part of the field between the villages of Capel Seion and Pant y Crug.. The local sparrow hawk used the cover of the hillock, flew low downhill in amongst the starlings. Whilst they hadn’t bothered to take off as I walked across to check and feed the sheep, the sparrow hawk caused the starlings to take off split into two groups, twist turn and generally exit the area. I was unable to tell if the hawk took a starling, the starlings soon settled down to feed again. By 3.35 they had moved one field west and were feeding in a tight group, and were joined by more birds perhaps 200.
