The lone lapwing alighted on the wet patch (only about 25m square and within c100m of the house) at 8.27 this morning, by 8.30 had tasted success!

I was used to seeing breeding birds on our farm in the High Peak but had not noticed their habit of 'prodding' the ground with one foot, (unlike the energetic 'dancing' of the Herring gull). Despite the grass being quite green, due to near permanent winter dampness, the bird is really well camouflaged. I was able to get a excellent good view of the apricot coloured rump and twin crest. Really a very attractive bird.
