Gulls top the list

With the snow gone and temperatures rising the majority of thrushes have disappeared from the coastal strip between Llanrhystud and Llanon.  There are still a lot of Lapwings around with a widely spread flock of about 500 birds just to the south of the Llanrhystud beach car park.  Lots of gulls in this area too, with the majority being Black-headed and Common with a few Herring and Lesser Black-backs.  I also managed to find one adult Med Gull amongst them.  The highlight, though was a cracking female Merlin which shot passed me along the shingle ridge scaring the living daylights into the Rock Pipits and Starlings feeding there.

The other highlight of the day was a 3rd winter Yellow-legged Gull amongst the hundreds of mixed gulls at the mouth of the small rived at Cei Bach.  This is a great spot to watch gulls as they gather to wash in the fresh water.  Apologies for the quality of the digi-sho the bird was quite distant.
