The affect of the cold weather on birds was obvious at Llanon today.  A wander around the stubbles fields just to the south of the village was a great experience; there were birds every where.  The following is a [conservative] estimate of the numbers of birds present:

Skylark -850
Chaffinch - 50
Brambling - 2
Lapwing - 400
Golden Plover - 250
Snipe - 17
Redwing - 800
Fieldfare - 300
Song Thrush - 30
Mistle Thrush - 10
Blackbird - 10
Starling - 350
House Sparrow - 45

Also, just off shore were 17 Red-throated Diver, 1 Shelduck, 138 Wigeon, 17 Teal and a single drake Shoveler.
