Starlings
This evening, thanks to Alan and his wife (sorry didn't catch your name) I ended up at the starling roost between Mydroilyn and Gors Goch. We arrived before the starlings, but not before the buzzards had started to gather - a sign of things to come. After about ten minutes the first starlings began to arrive in small flocks of a few hundred birds. As the evening progressed the flocks got larger and larger. I've no idea how many birds were involved in total, certainly tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands. The massed flocks whizzing around the wood were an amazing site. Eventually all of the birds disappeared into the conifers to roost - I imagine that every tree must have been jammed packed full of starlings. Inevitably, such a gathering isn't going to go unnoticed, and as well as the buzzards (10+) there was also a goshawk, merlin, 2 peregrines and a sparrow hawk looking for a late meal.
