First, I liked the photo of the Barn Owl Bob what a lovely sight, lets hope it becomes a regular visitor. Second, thought I had an Osprey yesterday whilst working in the garden, it was a distant view over Ynys Hir and without any optical help, but the jizz was right, otherwise it was a marsh harrier.
Third, and very exciting, yesterday I cleaned up the spent debris around my feeding station just outside our French windows and at about 6 pm was sitting in the dining room watching the birds mess it up again, why is Nyjer seed so messy?, when a stupendous male Yellowhammer dropped in, there was very little food for him but he made three visits and all within about 10ft of where I was sitting. He was bright canary yellow with super head markings, its only the second one I've had in 15 years in this garden. In the stable door mentality I promptly put out some rolled oats to entice him back but so far the Collard doves, Blackbirds and Robins have hoovered it up and no further sighting.
Fourth, a pair of Song Thrushes have taken up residence in or near our small garden, they seem to like the bits of peanut that the others drop on the ground, I think they nest very early, like Mistles do so, could they be feeding young already?. I notice that Tony Cross has reports of Dippers with eggs already.
