Acting out of character at Llanrhystud reaps reward
Things didn't look promising when I turned up late morning today at Llanrhystud. Hat and gloves still needed. Cold, grey, birdless sea lapping at the car park. But good birds did eventually appear. 15 Wheatears, 5 White Wagtails and a Mediterranean Gull on the fields. Further down on the shore amongst a small group of waders were 14 Whimbrel and 2 Bar-tailed Godwits (one in full breeding plumage). Returning back through the lime kilns the sun came out briefly and a Lesser Whitethroat burst into song. Despite being a "legger" rather than an "arser" I was able to remain still and patient long enough for it to eventually emerge right in front of me giving a great view. (For a fuller definition of the above terms as they apply to the two basic types of birder please see Mr Arfon Williams.)
