Terns at Ynyslas turn

On the way back from Aberystwyth I stopped for my lunch break at Ynyslas turn car-park. Off-shore there were large numbers of terns fishing with a mixed flock of 160 arctic and common terns. Highlight amongst them were four roseate terns. This instantly brought back memories of when I worked on a tern colony in Anglesey way back in 1985 for a summer when over 250 pairs of roseate terns were breeding at the site. Sadly, following heavy predation by peregrines the colony deserted and has now moved over to Rockabill in Ireland. Lovely white birds with really, really long tail streamers. Cracking birds!
