spotted crake
A quick stroll down to the Ynys Edwin pool at RSPB Ynys-hir this lunch time and within 5 minutes the spotted crake was out in the open at the far side of the pool. I watched it for 15 minutes or so and it was very skittish. As soon as a teal got too close it legged it (and it can move fast I can tell you) into the rushes before nervously peering out and, deciding it was safe again, coming out into the open. Finally, a carrion crow landed nearby and off it went into hiding so I called it a day as thick black clouds were fast approaching from the west.
