What a difference a day makes

A group of five of us visited the scene of yesterdays field trip today. A
complete contrast to yesterday with sunshine, a sea breeze and no rain. The
birds, however, were still there oblivious to the weather.

At Ynys Las we saw dunlin, curlew sandpiper, sanderling and 15+ sandwich
terns.
By the rail bridge over the Leri we saw sedge warblers.
At Ynys Hir the spotted crake was still in residence and gave us some very
good views while it stopped a while to preen. We walked the new boardwalk and
visited the new hide. Just  outside it there was a buzz of activity - four
workers wiring the boardwalk to make it safe, and a small patch of dead trees
where we watched blue tit, coal tit, great tit, chaffinch, siskin, redpoll,
spotted flycatcher (4), chiffchaff, treecreeper, nuthatch, dunnock, blackcap, and
robin. Resting not far from the hide was a hare. From the hide we could look
over water previously only viewable from the often flooded railway path and saw
little egret and curlew among others. It was well worth a visit and those dead
trees are a real bonus.

A good day out with fifty two species seen and we even got to take off our coats
at times.
