Field Trip ti Ynys-hir

Six brave souls defied the weather forecasters and met at Ynys Hir yesterday
and what an enjoyable time we had. David Anning led us on a walk around the
reserve and even found time for a coffee break - very civilized! Our list of
birds seen was : little grebe, cormorant, little egret, greylag goose, Canada
goose, shelduck, mallard, shoveler, wigeon, teal, goldeneye, red head smew
(star bird this one! seen at Dolman Las hide), red kite, buzzard, pheasant,
oystercatcher, grey plover, lapwing, redshank, bar tailed godwit, great black
backed gull, wood pigeon, great spotted woodpecker, meadow pipit, wren,
dunnock, robin, blackbird, goldcrest, great tit, coal tit, blue tit, nuthatch,
magpie, carrion crow, raven, starling, chaffinch, and greenfinch. David told us a
lot about his future plans for Ynys Hir and helped us to understand and
appreciate the problems and complexities of running such a large and diverse
reserve. We thoroughly enjoyed the day - so much so that David may find himself
called upon in the future though we will try to arrange for better weather!
