Job opportunity

Russell Jones has asked me to post the following.

I am currently recruiting for an exciting project in the Tarnava Mare Natura 2000 site in Transylvania this summer, working with Operation Wallacea.  I am looking to hire an experienced Ornithologist for the position, with preferably a ‘C ringing permit’.   Please find the details for this role below.  I would greatly appreciate if you could pass this on to anyone you think suitable and within local birding groups.  If you have any questions about this position, please do not hesitate in contacting me.  Further information may also be found on our website at www.opwall.com.  It is a stunning area and such an exciting project to be involved in, I would really appreciate your help in providing this opportunity to the right individual!

Kind regards,
Georgie

Operation Wallacea is a network of academics from European and North American universities, who design and implement biodiversity and conservation management research programmes.
We are currently recruiting an Ornithologist to collect data on the status of bird populations in Tarnava Mare Natura 2000 area, Romania.  This is to assess the effectiveness of traditional farming practices in the Natura 2000 area in creating high levels of biodiversity.  This position will ideally be eight weeks between June and early August. Costs on-site such as food and accommodation will be covered and a travel bursary would be available for experienced applicants.

The position will involve carrying out point counts so good identification skills alongside call identification are required.  We are looking for an individual able to carry out evening call back surveys, and you would preferably hold a ‘C’ ringing permit and have experience in this type of survey. Applicants should have experience of working in the field with a biological undergraduate degree level or higher or equivalent experience. Experience of conducting similar work with birds would be ideal, but most important is a desire to learn and enthusiasm for conducting field work in remote locations.
If you would like to apply for the position of Ornithologist, please send a CV or resume to Rachel Palfrey at rachel.palfrey@opwall.com
