Large flocks of hirundines over the river and hills at Llanilar, mix of swallows and housemartins mainly. Also wren, grey heron, collared doves, red kites, buzzards, carrion crows, magpies, blue tits, long-tailed tits, coal tits, treecreeper, robins, blackbirds, woodpigeon, pied wagtails, great tits, mallard and either marsh or willow tit - they did not speak (what they did do, and I don't know if this would help identify them, is collecting fluffy seed heads, depositing them in the fork of a tree and then stuffing them into gaps on the stem). Also meadow pipit (I think) and unidentified warbler. On the pond by the old station yard moorhen with juveniles, some already independent, some still being fed. At Black Covert 2 dippers in different locations on the river, group of 6 long-tailed tits, lots and lots of robins including juveniles, 2 grey wagtails and a buzzard. At Brynafan lots of jays, group of 4 at the edge of the forest and I disturbed a group of 8 further inside the forest. Also marsh or willow tit, not sure which. Along the road down from Brynafan large numbers of what I would identify as meadow pipit (again not 100% sure) - sitting on the wires and flying around. Around the Miners' Bridge in Pontrhydygroes chaffinches, great tits and robins - the best way to enjoy them is to sit outside at the lovely Cwtch cafe in Pontrhydygroes with some coffee and cake.
