Cwm Tydu - National Trust Bio Blitz

A good walk round Cwm Tydu and Cwm Soden this morning to record all birds seen towards a Bio Blitz organised by The National Trust.
The cliff section of the walk was blasted by the strong westerly wind so few birds there apart from the expected Chough, a couple of Wheatear, Stonechat and Meadow Pipits.
Once in the sheltered valley, species picked up with numerous Chiffs and Blackcaps.
A Dipper was hoped for in the usual stream by the waterfall and it showed nicely.
Highlight of a seawatch were 16 Manx Shearwaters feeding well out in the bay and a Sandwich Tern. A few Gannets, Shag and Cormorants but rather quiet.
By the stream in the village there were Grey Wagtails, Pied wagtails and Rock Pipits. The expected raptors were overhead, Buzzards, Red Kite and Kestrel.
The walk ended with 40 species. The bird total for the 24 hours will be higher as others had seen some common species that we missed including Dunnock, Nuthatch and Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Good to see so many experts in their own field counting, recording and enjoying the day. Well worth a walk in this beautiful location too. Thanks to The National Trust for inviting us to take part.
