BORTH and ABERYSTWYTH

23 Common Scoters and a Red-throated Diver were scattered across an otherwise empty sea between Borth and Ynyslas this morning. However, on the pebble beach at the far northern end of Borth was a high-tide wader roost comprising 16 Sanderling, 135 Dunlin, 2 Turnstones plus several Oystercatchers and some Ringed Plovers and here are just a few of them:

Later I noticed a Chiffchaff near Borth sewage works.
Back in Aberystwyth at the Old College, the male Black Redstart with the damaged leg was extremely obliging:
I then walked beside the Rheidol, heading upstream from Trefechan and by the police station a Kingfisher showed rather well, perched on a rock in the river.
Having mentioned to Claire Stott that when she next goes for a walk at Plascrug (see her photos from the other day) she should look out for a Water Rail, today she saw one there in the ditch!
