Wheatear were the target species on an early morning walk from the Cliff Hotel towards Cardigan Farm Park. No luck with those but instead good views of a Great Northern Diver as it drifted close in towards Cardigan Island. Richard had earlier seen it in the estuary.
As usual, the local Barnacle flock were grazing on the coastal fields but today were joined by 2 Golden Plover. Usually big flocks are seen in the estuary in winter but noticeable by their absence this year.
Nice to hear Skylarks singing and Linnets back in the gorse.
This is a worthwhile under-watched stretch of coast in the south of the county to visit where, with a scope, it is possible to see the Guillemots and Razorbills on Cardigan Island.
The damp areas of the cliff top golf course look perfect for a rare American wader - one day!!
