Aberarth to Llanon, Saturday 23rd.
A beautiful sunny spring day for once - a delight to be out. Was initially alerted to two red kites heading out to sea, so far out that they were not visible by eye. The did some aerial mock fighting (courtship possibly?) and then we lost sight of one but kept any eye on the other - only one returned! No idea why kites would fly so far out to sea - never witnessed this behaviour from them before.
Others on the walk were buzzard, peregrine, chough, raven, magpie, jackdaw, wheatear, whitethroat, stonechat, goldfinch, linnets (not seen them there before), wren, dunnock, pied wagtail, rock pipit, gulls, cormorants, fulmar, oystercatcher and quite a few swallows following the coastline north. What was also striking was watching the aerial abilities of the jackdaws as they swoop down onto nests on the cliff faces. These birds really are acrobatic and are a long way from the town jackdaws that sit on chimney pots!
