After starting my seawatch behind the fish factory at New Quay shortly before 8 o'clock, five minutes later seven Arctic Skuas had passed and I was kicking myself, wondering what I had missed. Memo to self: start next seawatch at dawn.
By 8:35 the Arctic Skua count had reached 14, after which one at 11:10 and two at 12:55 brought it up to 17, my best ever daily total in the county. The only Bonxie went through at 11:55.
A good passage of Sandwich Terns, 79 in total, was made even better when one party of six was accompanied by a dainty little Black Tern
Masses of Kittiwakes, the majority in the first hour. My total was 675. Other counts; Gannet 73, Manx Shearwater 60, Common Scoter 37, Fulmar five, Med Gull four, Dunlin two, Teal one.
