Llanon stubble fields

Had a walk around the stubble fields at Llanon yesterday and counted 25 species of bird in all. Highlight was a merlin that came fast and low across the fields from the north before rising steeply into some meadow pipits. The chase was on but the pipit got away after some amazing moves finally heading into the hedge dividing the fields.
Others were: Pied wagtail grey wagtail, robin, starling, carrion crow, buzzard, red kite, great black backed gull, lesser black backed gull, herring gull, black headed gull, Mediterranean gull, gannet, oystercatcher, heron, stonechat, reed bunting, skylark, meadow pipit, blue tit, goldfinch, dipper (stream running through Morfa), magpie, wood pigeon
