Recent sightings

It's been nice to watch a pair of Choughs collecting nesting material from the fields at Tanybwlch recently. The ringed individual (Red W0) is an adult female that has successfully raised 3 broods in the area since 2014 when she was ringed. Her partner is also ringed but appears to have lost the colour rings on his right leg. I'm still awaiting to confirm the ID of this bird but it is probably a 14/15 year old male that has bred with this female in the past.

On Friday (10th) the 13 Tufted Ducks, 4 Coot and the pair of Great Crested Grebes were present on the Trisant lakes. No sign of the Ring-necked Duck, it's now possibly moved onto another lake. One to look out for! On Saturday (11th) there were 5 Shoveler and a Green Sandpiper on the Ynys Feurig pool at Ynys-hir.

Sunday evening there was a cracking flock of 415 Golden Plover on the rocks at Llanrhystud. Some now in full breeding plumage. 3 Adult Med Gulls were in amongst the Black-headed's around the beach carpark. There were also 4 ringed Curlew on the shoreline (above left knee - Red; above right knee - Black with white text; right leg - metal). Sometime last week I had 10 Grey Plover on the rocks north of the beach carpark at Llanrhystud.
