Re the recent
Aberaeron Mandarin posting by Sue and Terry Reeves, the bird is seen frequently
along the stretch from Lover's Bridge to the harbour, usually consorting with
Mallard. Yesterday afternoon (Wed 8th) it was in the company of two males and a
female. Not sure what chance he thought he might have, being smaller and lighter
and less aggressive. He's usually along that stretch although he did come to my
garden on the edge of Aberaeron on 21/5/16 (posted on the blog).
I counted four
pairs of Mallard (mf) along that small stretch, which with "my" pair slightly
further up river, makes at least five pairs in the area. I haven't seen so many
paired-up females at this time of year which hopefully will increase duckling
numbers this year.
