This morning I met John and Jill for a stroll around Ynys-hir. I got there a wee bit early and sat watching the feeders in front of the visitor centre where a female Brambling was foraging on the ground and got quite close a couple of times.
We had lovely views of some small birds - tree creeper, goldcrest and long-tailed tit - close to Marian Mawr Hide. After a while we joined Tony and Ina inside and whilst we were chatting a Great White Egret got up from in front of the hide and flew slowly past. On leaving the hide we were able to get good, distant views of the bird which had landed on the other side of the Dyfi.
We had a good selection of raptors during our time at the reserve - Buzzard, Red Kite, Peregrine, Sparrowhawk and a probable Merlin.
We also saw some lovely butterflies on an ivy-clad tree - 3 Red Admirals and a Comma.
