Maesllyn

At least 10 herons were at the lake and making a din at the heronry in the larches opposite Maesllyn. The great egret showed well, there was a little egret in the field behind, together with a goosander pair and a couple of  greylags on the lake and a lone redshank at the water's edge. We watched a treecreeper fly to an old oak and spotted a nuthatch about six feet above. Back at the visitor centre, red kites flew over the hills, a mistle thrush perched in a boundary oak and, to cap it all, a kestrel hovered quite close. An enjoyable sunny afternoon.
