On my way to the dentist this morning I stopped off at Castle Point for a quick look at the sea and shore. A very brief view of a diving auk had me focused on the area when a Black Guillemot flew through my scope view at fairly close range.
Probably the same bird that was here last Saturday, as previous county records show birds often stay around for a few days, or even longer. So well worth keeping an eye out if you are by the seaside this fine bank holiday weekend.
Incidentally, when I did catch the original auk on the surface, it was a Guillemot.
