A visit to Ynyslas this morning didn't produce the plethora of patch ticks that I was hoping for, but I managed to get a couple of new birds for the year. A seawatch from the brickhouse in the early hours produced the expected masses of passing Manx Shearwaters. I was hopeful for a Balearic, but it wasn't to be, perhaps a bit too early. The scrub held small numbers of Blackcaps, Sedge Warblers, Willow Warblers and a juv. Grasshopper Warbler.
A flyover Lesser Redpoll was new for the year, as was a Black-tailed Godwit that was feeding on the Leri alongside a Latvian ringed Black-headed Gull (yellow ringed KJZ4, I believe), which I will post the details of when I get them. At the tern posts small numbers of Ringed Plover/Dunlin were joined by a Knot and there were around 30 Sandwich Terns at the point and in the mouth of the estuary.
Other birds in the area included a Common Sandpiper, 2 Stock Doves, 6 Whimbrel and 4 Red Kites (two of which ended up drifting north over the estuary and into Gwynedd).
On my way back down south I thought I'd stop off at Llanon to have a look at the Med Gull flock. A quick count got me 307. I managed to read about 15 ring combinations, most of which previously noted by Arfon. The new birds I got were : White 3542, 3PKE and 3844 (or 3644) and Green 6L3.
