Spent an hour at Ynys Feurig in the rain yesterday morning. First
impressions of the main flooded area were disappointing with only 5 teal and 3
pintail. But after 20 mins a huge flock of mainly teal arrived back. Max numbers
were teal 520, mallard 40, pintail 3, shoveler 14. Other birds on the fringes of
the flood and on the surrounding grassland included 280 curlew, 300 lapwing. 4
red kites and a buzzard were the only raptors.
I spent an hour in the Domen Las hide in the late afternoon.
Highlights: a female hen harrier, a male kestrel, 5 little grebes and a barn
owl. 9 cormorants came into the main roost.
